I love to read! I have a passion for books that goes way back to my childhood. I can remember Miss Frances on "Ding Dong School" reading a book that I actually had in my little hands and I was thrilled that I could follow along. In the summertime, my school library would be open and I could check out Nancy Drew and other girlie books. In high school, I discovered Mary Stewart who wrote books like "The Moonspinners" which Disney made into a movie with Haley Mills. Oh how I wanted to visit the Greek Island of Crete after reading that book and seeing the movie. Above are pictures of our church library which I am proud to say I've been a part of since the beginning. The pic on the left is actually the second home of the books....it started out with just 3 or 4 shelves in one of the pastor's office. Then we got this room which was also the room where new mom's could nurse their babies while still listening to the pastor teach. When we moved into our new building we now have a space that is 3x the size of our old one.
The library was a dream of my dear friend Heidi Gibbons. Heidi was an English major in college and when she and her hubby Ron moved to Motown and started attending CRC (our church), she asked me to help her with her dream. When she asked, Heidi was in end stage breast cancer and even though her dream was realized later on, she never got to see it. Then Marsha and Mel moved to Motown from Arizona and Marsha had a vision for the library and I jumped on the bandwagon. It's a major blessing to have all these amazing books available.
This entire entry started with my trying to decide what books to take with me on vacation. I'm flying to Tampa tomorrow to spend a week with my one and only big sister. So I'm taking my bible of course, "Searching for God Knows What" by Don Miller, a Jodie Piccoult book (my new fav author) and some book about bees...."The Secret Life of Bees" and I've had 2 friends tell me this is the best book ever....we'll see.
Go check out your library (no pun intended....LOL)
Hopefully I'll be posting some Florida pictures soon.
