I'm feeling a little blue today that I don't have my dad around to honor. He never made much of holidays, especially Father's Day, but he did enjoy getting a special card from me. I got to know my dad pretty well, after mom passed, and I spent a lot of my time with him. I do know that he loved his family with a fierce, passionate love and would do anything for us.
I caught a picture of that recently at my son's wedding. His dad, Bob, and I had some time to chat. He commented that Walt was "my greatest accomplishment". And I know for a fact that Bob has been the very best Dad from day one. He spent so much time with Walt....teaching him, playing with him, giving him "time" which is so important to a kid. They travelled a LOT. And Bob gave Walt so many opportunities to see and do things that I could never have given him. Bob has that fierce, passionate love too. It's pretty amazing to witness.
I'm honored to have known and loved both of these men. Their lives were/are not perfect, but when it comes to their children, their love was/is unconditional, powerful.
I imagine that's just an inkling of how God loves us so it's great to see God's example thru 2 men who have been key in my life and the life of my son Walt.
I now see the best of both of them in Walt's life and am also blessed to see God is working there too. Walt's not a dad yet, but I suspect he'll be a pretty phenomonal dad. That's something I'm looking forward too.
Happy Dad's Day.....daddy, Bob. It's an honor to honor you both.
